Merry Christmas, I say

It’s Christmas time. As much as I like seeing how happy people become over the shared joy, I also feel with the others, who feel sorrow over being left outside this experience. It’s ambiguous. To have all the reasons in the world to be part, and yet, neither feel, nor want to become. I do feel a thorn sometimes, the discomfort of pretending. Merry Christmas, I say.

Kulturnatten

Last night had potential to become one of the more exciting nights in this little town. Kulturnatten is the night of the year when tons of culture is presented on our streets. It quite probably was fantastic, but I was a bit unlucky in my planning and succeeded to miss about everything I wanted to see or hear. It didn’t matter, really, while I spent most of the time on a bar in very good company. One thing I didn’t miss was to bring my camera. Judging from the images, one could think there were hardly no one on the streets this evening, but I guess that’s me, how I see things.

This is where to go when on the outlook for used things, an entire avenue that every Saturday is filled with a mix of people where most give the impression having tidying up the basement. This flee market has been going on ever since I came to Lund, a quite healthy alternative to headless consumption. Not that I live accordingly, and for what it’s worth, nor do many of the vendors, some do seem to have cleaned out someone else’s basement. It is sure fun just walking around there, looking at people and what they have for offer, things they once bought and treasured, but now has no function in their lives.

Well hidden in the Southern outskirts of Lund is a place I only recently learnt to know about. It’s a cemetery forgotten by most, and they who rest here were forgotten about already while they lived. The cemetery was used between 1895 and 1951 by the mental hospital which is located immediately nearby. There are no grave stones, only iron plates with the deceased patients’ journal number on. Poor souls, I hope they all found peace when the place was abandoned. Today, it’s a very tranquil place, it seems hardly no one gets here.

Sushi på skånska

This is a sushi restaurant here in Lund. It’s called “Sushi på skånska”, which means Sushi in Skånska, which in turn is our particular dialect here in South Sweden. Some overly witty one has sprayed Sushi in Japanese on the window.

Hello Spring

This is almost as when I was young, when we had real winters and long, sunny summers. As I remember it, Spring usually lasted for, say a week. Then there was Summer all May. And then came June, as a backlash. In July, it all stabilised and became Summer for real. Can’t remember I experienced this for a very long time.

My supermarket

Since we moved to the neighbourhood we’re living in, we have not that many choices in where to buy our groceries. There’s only one place and it’s not particularly well-assorted, nor particularly pretty. Usually, we go elsewhere, by car, but when there are only a few things missing, we go here. First thing you notice while entering is the odour from the can and bottle recycling area that’s located at the entry; obviously there are lots of beer cans in orbit around here. Also located at the entrance is the old couple selling lottery tickets. They have been granted a permanent spot where they can have their camping chairs and table set. This winter, I often saw them under layers of blankets, having coffee from a thermos. I guess, they didn’t find the supermarket life too exiting during the coldest period. Nevertheless, they seem happy, overall, as I’m happy with what there are, overall. Alternatively, I would have to take the car whenever I’m short of something. Like tonight, when I found out we were out of Ajvar Relish, and I have had a few glasses of wine. Midway through the Easter weekend, at an evening hour; it shouldn’t have had to be open, but it was. A life saver. I can really live with it not being especially pretty.

These photos are from a short walk in the botanical garden in Lund. Warm weather has arrived and not only do trees and plants wake up, also people seem to come out from their winter sleep. There is something to see where ever you look.

What district?

I know, Lund is that small it has no districts. Spotted this on the way home from having seen a movie (King’s speech). The room seemed completely empty, no party whatsoever. There’s a trend now, to decorate with coloured light, you know, warm lights for this feeling and cold light for that other, and so on. It’s interesting seeing others than those that are into lighting and image making speaking kelvin degrees and colour spectrum. These people might be such ones, although not appearing that successful. Btw, aren’t those low energy, fluorescent lamps horrible? For decades, it has been possible to make regular fluorescent tubes that are warm white, but these florescent bulbs are totally industrial in its colour temperature. Just had to write that, otherwise, I’m not into decorating with light at all.
