SoFoBoMo is short for Solo Photo Book Month, an annual, international event were all participants make a photobook in a month. The event always starts on the first in a month and actually lasts for two months. You’re free to start your project at any day within that time span, but have to keep it no longer than 31 days. Nothing but planning is allowed prior to the start; all photography, writing and layout have to be made during these 31 days, and the published result has to be provided as a PDF file. Ah, yes, there have to be at least 35 images in the book. These are the rules, do visit www.sofobomo.org for more details.
I have participated twice, in years 2009 and 2011. Both times, I very much enjoyed the creative stress that came from the rigid rules. There’s simply not much time for other than photographing, making a rough edit in Photoshop and outlining the story to tell in the book. Do try it. It’s such a wonderful feel to actually deliver a body of work and not just saving piles of images in the drawer.
