Yay, I will be famous

Konsten att sova vaken

Not. :-)

I helped a friend to a friend of mine to find a picture that she could use as cover page for her latest poetry book. It was not that easy as I might have thought. Initially we digged into all pictures I have with boats and sea, since that was what she envisioned when thinking of what she had written. I did some serious photo-shopping too, with different overlay colours, to see how that appeared. Later that idea was discarded in favour of more alienated motives, which I also have quite a few of. I think the one she finally fell for suits the title really well. The book title can be loosely translated into ‘The art of sleeping awake’. The cover picture has not been edited much but is almost all-natural.

Ove, famous or not, still a wonderful honor. Congratulations! :-)

Thanks, Earl! Choosing a picture for a book was far more difficult than for instance selecting an image for a brochure, which I do quite often. This time, the images to choose between were my own. There are also so much more feelings bound to a book cover, compared to commercial material. I’m happy she liked my pictures and felt they resonated with her writing.

An excellent honor, Ove. Congratulations. Remember the little people when you get famous. We would appreciate it.

Ove this is way cool. I can’t think of anything better than walking into a bookstore and seeing an image you created on a book cover. I really like the one that was chosen, something about roads and night that makes one think.

Paul, I will mention you in my speech, which I btw have to prepare right now. Heck, times are busy now, but I’m doing my best to keep my feet on the ground. ;) Thanks a million, Paul!

Thanks a lot, Ray. I really think so too. During the day, I don’t think so much about who are really sitting behind the windows in their cars, but during night-time… Who are they and what do they do here, at this hour? What do they think of? And so on…

Hi! I’m very happy and delighted to read this. I think the process was stimulating and interesting, an exploration, and in the end we found the perfect picture. You really listened and tried to understand my thoughts. Above all, you contributed with your own reflections, associations and feelings about the themes I wanted to express. You didn’t just deliver a picture, you were a co-creator in the process.

Thanks, Anneli, that was very kind of you to write. I must say that I especially enjoyed that part of the work with you, when we tried to create a common understanding of what was to be envisioned, viewing the cover. That was the true challenge.

  • Welcome to my blog about this and that – ditt & datt in Swedish. The topics you'll find here are not always that general, though. You wont find anything on football, for instance. Moreover, all the light will most often be on photographs I made. In fact, if I tell something I find worthwhile telling, I usually stick a few of my photographs to the story. You could almost say this is about photography, and in a way you're right, it is. But it is also about what I see.
