This was taken yesterday, on a Saturday, but yet, the feel was like being out on a wonderful Sunday walk. It was a marvellous day, far from the usual dark, cold and wet blanket that have been pulled over us for a while now.
I was out shooting for a few hours and that was bloody marvellous too, like balm for the soul. The afterwork in the evening, with Photoshop and a glass of wine couldn’t have felt much better. There were several pictures that made it into my Flickr photostream, but I think I liked this one best. I used my Lensbaby lens all day and tried to just enjoy the lovely light and colours. The Lensbaby can be really awkward sometimes, drawing the light like you were travelling in warp speed heading for another solar system. You have to be gentle on your hand and not turn the lens too much, sidewise. I placed the sweet spot for focus at the white building, which by the way is the University main building. The woman walking her dog just got that unfocused that I dream about to get it but ever so often just would see disappear in the backsweeps after a Warp speed ride.
I just love my painterly Lensbaby, and I just loved this Saturday.
I’ve never tried the lensbaby but I do enjoy its effect when it is put to good use as you have done. I hope to see more of these.
Ove, I’m not a big fan of the lensbaby but I have to say I do like this photo! It look’s unreal — like a small scale model town with close-up photography to make it seem life size. Something about the white building and the out of focus areas bring that to my mind.

Earl, the Lensbaby is sometimes confused with tilt-shift lenses, for reasons. This particular scene really looks like being taken with such a lens.

I keep coming back and looking at this and am still not sure what it is about the image I like so much. It is a totally different take on the scene than I would get. My focus would have been on the person with the rest out of focus. There is a painter feel to this and I am searching my books for the one that it reminds me of. I like this a lot and a new perspective for me.
Ray, I may very well be inspired from a painter without knowing it. During late eighties and early nineties, I painted a lot myself and studied also many artist’s work in detail to get inspiration and knowledge of how different subject matters could be visualised. I was in particular inspired by the German expressionists from the last century (mainly 20s and 30s), but also by North American artists like Hopper.
