You might remember that I ordered a book long time ago. I have by now turned the art of waiting into something else. First time around, Amazon realised they had sold me a book they didn’t have in stock any more. Not a bit discouraged, I made a wider outlook and found one dealer who had a used copy of this particular book. They shipped it with USPS, and I remember I thought to myself this might take time.
I have no idea where it went after this, because even with snail mail, powered by the pony express, I would have had the book in my hands by last week. Today, I got a message from the dealer that they had lost an entire bag of packages destined for my country. It was checked in at JFK in New York, but never made it to Scandinavia.
Fallen fruit, what a waste. It might be a sign, though, that this book not is intended for my eyes. I’m allergic to apples, anyway.

I’m not a fan of electronic book readers but this certainly sounds like a good case for an e-book. If available in this format, it could have been downloaded and read several time by now.
This post reminds me of a thought I’ve had before, abut how much I take for granted, living in the US, that I can get whatever I want when I want it. Did you get your money back? I’ve heard that is a good book; I hope you are able to get it.
Yes, sure, I got the money refunded. Those things usually work well. I must say I’m used to that too, getting what I want when I need it. It takes not longer time and is not much more complicated to send things abroad than cross the states. This time, I was particularly unlucky, I guess.
Ove: I’m sorry to hear about your troubles. Hopefully the USPS will get their act together and you’ll be able to get your book! They’re usually pretty reliable, but sometimes … You’ll get the book at the right time, I suppose.
Thanks, Paul. We’ll see, if I’m lucky, the book turns up anyway, although they lost contact with it.
I have a few of Patterson’s books they are generally well worth the wait. Like the latest photos a lot.
I have an apple tree but you can’t see the fallen apples for the deer eating them as fast as they hit the ground.
There are not many wild animals were I live, most agricultural surroundings, no woods whatsoever. Lots of rabbits, though. If they want an apple, I’m okay with it.
Hi Ove. I got an e-book reader for my birthday this summer (I’m now 60). It’s a Sony and it works well for reading purposes. For my model (I don’t know about others), images are in many shades of grey. In truth, I won’t use the reader much, it will be used a lot by my wife. I am still hooked into holding a book in my hands.
Shades of Gray….makes it hard to use for photo books then.
Wonderful. Maybe too cool for my taste. I would definitely make it much warmer, but I can see why one could like it this way.
