This is Barcelona, and the sun is about to rice. Everybody is sleeping, and I mean everybody but me.
I really don’t know what it is that makes me especially found of this picture, I tend to think its photographic qualities are not that good. On the other hand, there are no flaws like motion blur or colour shifts, so technically speaking it’s okay. Composition falls into this category, I guess. I think it is this that concerns me, that i could have done better from that perspective. On the third hand…uhm…, I have no clue what that would have been.
But even I, with all my self-criticism, has to agree on that the picture has an aura of tranquillity that is typical for Barcelona at this time in the morning. I have been to Barcelona a couple of times, and at six in the morning, Barcelona is really peaceful. No people, no cars, no nothing. Okay, I usually met a few people heading home after a night of fun, when I’m out for my regular run. But the tranquillity, you would not believe it was like this two or three hours later. I think it is this aura and my memory from how silent it is outside that window that makes this picture to me.

Ove, I think photographs are often tied to memories and feelings. This photo obviously is significant in that manner. Looking at it I can get a sense of a peaceful early morning while perhaps on holiday and I’ve never been to Barcelona. From that perspective this is a good photograph–it has a story.
Yes, you’re right about this, Earl. Let’s see what happens when I in a few months revise my collections of photos, it’s not unlikely this has to go if I compare to other I have captured.
This caught my eye right away because there is a story here. An implied story about some morning peace before a day in a city. You may change your mind on it but I see a keeper. Found you thru Chris K and will be adding your flickr to my contacts Nice work and I would like to see more.
Thank you very much, Ray, and welcome! To me, a story usually forms the basis of an image that I’m found of. This makes me probably left liking real life than abstracts. But, of course, even an abstract comes with a story, sometimes. Thanks again, Ray!
Rest assured: it is wonderful
Why? Maybe because it depicts an archetype of early morning. It’s not Barcelona. This could be everywhere. It is the archetype that touches me.
Thanks, Andreas!
